Frequently Asked Questions: Technical
While ArchivalWare™ is compatible with Linux & some flavors of UNIX, most of our installed base is on Windows Server 2000/2003. We prefer Enterprise Edition. Our investigation to date indicates that ArchivalWare™ is compatible with platforms based upon VMWare with Windows Server. We do not, however, have any current installations with this configuration. ArchivalWare™ can run on single or multiple processor hardware platforms.
- Internet Explorer 5.5 and newer
- Netscape 7.1 and newer
- Mozilla Foxfire 1.2 and newer
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 6 and higher
- Viewers for specific document types, i.e. Word, Excel, etc.
Our preferred database is MS SQL Server 2005 or later, but ArchivalWare™ will run on MySQL and Oracle. ArchivalWare™ can work with Oracle 10g (and any other database that is ODBC compliant).
We use open source products that allow for platform independence. This means that we use Java & J2EE solutions, not .NET. However, we can easily provide a standard web services interface for connecting with .NET solutions.
Metadata is tagged and stored as XML. Currently the metadata records can only exported in XML format. ArchivalWare™has a optional Dublin Core to MARC and MARC to Dublin Core cross-walk utility.
