Features & Functionality
Supported File Types
ArchivalWare™ can natively support over 225 different types of digital documents and can be configured to support any type of document that can be viewed with a web plug-in or helper application. ArchivalWare uses document filters to process each file prior to indexing and categorization so that search, classification, and profiling results can be viewed properly and hits in documents can be highlighted.
Search Modes
ArchivalWare retrieves documents using the sophisticated RetrievalWare search engine. You begin your search using one of three modes: Pattern, Concept, or Boolean. You can additionally perform field, proximity, wildcard, truncation, date and date range, and other more sophisticated searches.
System Administration
ArchivalWare can be managed through the use of a special and secured web-based interface. This allows ArchivalWare to be managed from virtually anywhere through a standard browser interface. Users who are assigned to a group with Create privileges will be able to access the Administrator but will have limited functionality. Only the Data Management tab will be enabled. The administrator application can be accessed from the same login screen as the ArchivalWare search application.
Browse Hierarchy
Two methods for finding information are searching and browsing. Traditional search has focused on entering a query and then looking at the results, often resulting in a process similar to finding a needle in a haystack. ArchivalWare’s browse hierarchy can be compared to a virtual file system.
Cataloging Editor
The ArchivalWare Metadata Editor is a Java servlet that can be run from any PC or workstation using a web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 5.0 or later). The program gives the user a single-record editing capability, allowing for the removal or assignment of additional metadata field information.
Metadata
ArchivalWare uses XMP metadata to perform more precise searches, limiting exposure to risk and optimizing workflow.
Reporting
Reports may be generated to provide a variety of information about ArchivalWare. There are seven reports available. Reports may be run with certain options to provide your staff with more specific information. .
Standards Supported
ArchivalWare supports many of the popular web and archive standards. These include:
-Dublin Core metadata schema (commonly used in digital library applications)
-Z39.50
-Extensible Markup Language (XML)
-J2EE (v 1.5), EJB 2.0
-Open source web and application servers (Tomcat 5.5, JBOSS 4.0.3)
